Noun: Definitions and Examples



Noun: Noun is one of the fundamental parts of ‘Parts of Speech’ in English grammar. It is defined in various ways. Some says that ‘naming words are nouns.’ Some others say that ‘a word that represents a person, place, thing and idea is known as noun.’ Nouns are countable and uncountable both. They are concrete and abstract too. In forms they are singular and plural too.
These nouns are used as the subject or the object of a sentence. Apart from this they play various other grammatical roles. They play significant role in making sentences and in expressing of ideas.

Ram, Sita, Shyam, Hari, New Delhi, Bhopal, Rewa, Satna, Cow, Dog, Teacher, Pen, Train, Chair, Computer, Honesty, Happiness, Beauty, Knowledge, Team, Class, Family, Flock, Rice, Oil, Cloth, Water.
